Cracked Toilet Causes Water Damage
While the owner of this fond du Lac home was temporarily residing in a rehabilitation this toilet cracked, causing water to leak throughout the main level and soak into the basement. Since the homeowner was away, the leak was not noted for about seven days.
Flooring – mostly carpeting – was saturated in the first floor bathroom, hallway, two bedrooms and parts of the kitchen and family room. Walls were damp or “wicked” from the floor up approximately four feet. Basement ceiling rafters were not only saturated, but also covered in mold.
SERVPRO tackled the water damage, mold damage, and identified asbestos in the flooring, which had to be abated by a professional abatement contractor. We worked hand-in-hand with the insurance adjuster and the homeowner’s representative throughout the process.
After carpeting was torn out and plaster walls were demolished, our repair team went to work on the rebuild. The homeowner decided to replace most of the carpeting with laminate, and the end result was less maintenance and an updated facelift.
