Upstairs Unit Electrical Fire
This fire in an upstairs unit of a duplex was the result of an electrical fire inside a wall. Electrical fires are one of the four most common types/causes of fire. Electrical fires are usually caused by:
- Incorrectly installed wiring
- Overloaded circuits and extension cords
- Defective or improper plugs, switches and outlets
- Misuse and poor maintenance of lighting
There are a few things tenants and homeowners can do to prevent electrical fires:
- Never plug in something with a damaged electrical cord
- Never cut off a 3rd prong on an electrical cord
- Don't overload outlets with too many items
- Don't use extension cords as a permanent solution
